A businesswoman in Thika Town of Kiambu County is furious after one of her clients relocated without paying her dues.

Betty Ndung’u’s work involves doing laundry, commonly known as mama fua for clients in Thika Town.

She markets her job on TikTok and relies on client referrals. Betty charges KSh 700 for her services.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Betty remarked that the client in question- Mama Noni, told her to collect her wage in the evening after she finished doing laundry.

How client relocated with mama fua’s money in Kiambu

This was Betty's third time working with Mama Noni, and she says she did not have a problem with coming later for her pay as it had been their norm.

“After I had finished washing her clothes, she told me to come back in the evening at 5pm to collect my payment which is KSh 700,” stated Betty.
“I did not mind because that is the agreement we usually have as she does not want to spend on transaction costs associated with mobile transactions,” she explained when asked why it was not sent to her M-Pesa.

However, Betty was in for the shock of her life when she returned at 6pm only to find an empty house.

When she asked the neighbors about Mama Noni’s whereabouts, she was told the woman had relocated to an unknown residence.

She tried calling the client’s number, but her efforts were futile, as the woman had blocked her number.

Realising that she must have been coned, Betty ran to the wireline where she hung Mama Noni’s clothes, only to find they were gone.

“I returned to collect my money around 6pm and found out she had relocated. The neighbors do not know where she relocated to.” Betty told TUKO.co.ke.
“I called her several times, but she was not picking up. Eventually, it was not going through because she blocked me,” she added.

Betty expressed her disappointment with the client, noting that it is bad manners and unprofessional to dupe someone who has served you wholeheartedly.

“I am tired of looking for her, she is a con, and I leave it all to God now. These are some of the challenges we experience in line of duty,” she stated.

Kenyans react to Mama Fua’s expose’

Betty Ndung’u has taken to her TikTok, which boasts over five thousand followers, to express her dissatisfaction with the client.

In a video showing her doing laundry, Betty captioned:

“After washing clothes, she told me to collect my payment in the evening, only to find that she had relocated. It is very painful. This is how my family slept hungry.”

This clip invited mixed reactions from Kenyans, with a majority encouraging her and some doubting her honesty.

Amos Moseti7 said:

“This is why people receive curses in their lives; the client should pay her dues to be set free. God will bless you more.”

Devella Devellah shared similar sentiments stating:

“Some people don't know that small mistakes like this could mess up your entire generation.”
“Sorry for going through that, inbox. I get you a dead,” James wrote.

However, some netizens doubted Betty’s story, questioning the contents of the video she shared.

“Why were you recording while doing laundry? If you know she will relocate, we will need this video,” Montex asked.
“And where was the cameraman, and did she relocate with wet clothes?” another user commented.
