Kilifi - Tragedy struck when a bus travelling from Kilifi to Malindi crashed in the Matsangoni area, resulting in the death of a nine-month-old baby.

The Saturday, August 31 accident also left 17 passengers injured, with two in critical condition.

What caused Kilifi-Malindi Highway bus accident?

Kilifi County Police Commander Fatma Hadi reported that the bus lost control, veered off the road, and overturned after a tyre burst. Authorities have confirmed that Buscar Company owns the bus.

Earlier reports indicated that the injured passengers were taken to Kilifi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Social media images from the scene depict the severity of the crash, showing the bus overturned on the road and surrounded by a distressed crowd.

Kenyans react after Kilifi-Malindi Road accident

Clayton Chimwani said:

"Quick recovery to all who sustained injuries, God have mercy on your people."

"God we are tired of typing rip may you intervene."

Kendi Candy observed:

"What is happening,...last night pia accident occured at nithi - bridge. Weren't safe. God have mercy on us."

Several people die in Nithi Bridge accident

In other news, several people were confirmed dead after a multiple crash along Meru-Embu Road on the Nithi Bridge.

A 14-seater matatu travelling to Nairobi lost brakes and collided with a miraa pickup on the notorious black spot before crashing into an oncoming Toyota Hilux car.

A few minutes later, another Toyota Senta also lost brakes and crashed into a lorry that was stalled at the same scene. An eyewitness shared an account of what he claimed to have happened at the scene.
