“The thunderstorm destroyed two classrooms and the staffroom during last evening's heavy downpour,” she said.

The students who sustained injuries from the incident were rushed to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Chiga, Kisumu county.

The principal asserted that the students were out of danger, although the incident left some in shock. She added that everything is currently under control.

"The heavy rains left behind a trail of destruction, with the roofs of the affected classrooms blown off as a result," she said.

The school management, led by the principal, is appealing to the county government and well-wishers for assistance in rebuilding the affected classrooms so that normal learning activities can resume.

In a separate incident, Mariakani residents were mourning after a 4-year-old pupil was killed by a flying iron sheet blown off Gogoraruhe Mosque ECDE School amid strong winds.

Four other pupils sustained serious injuries after the flying iron sheet hit them.

The children were rushed to Mariakani Sub-county Hospital for treatment, where the four-year-old girl tragically succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.

The other pupils sustained head and limb injuries as a result of the incident.

Speaking after the tragedy, Governor Gideon Mung'aro said the school's parking lot, vehicles, and classrooms were damaged.

He further emphasised the severity of the strong winds, saying that they pulled down trees and electric posts and left many displaced.
