Korogocho Boy Pulled From Crowd During William Ruto’s Rally Receives Fully Paid Scholarship

President William Ruto has awarded a boy from Korogocho slums in Nairobi a fully paid scholarship covering his education until the completion of his high school education.

Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja, in a crowd, spotted the boy Gavin Omondi during the launch of the Nairobi River Regeneration plan

The governor asked President Ruto to support Gavin’s education, calling the boy and his father to move towards the vehicle where President William Ruto was.

“Your excellency, this child should be in school, let the boy and his father come forward,” directed Sakaja.

William Ruto offers scholarship to Gavin Omondi

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the head of state vowed to pay for Gavin's education from Class One to Form Four.

“This child is called Gavin Omondi, I will pay his school fees from Standard One to Form Four. Thank you very much,” stated Ruto.

Sakaja lauded the president for his generosity and called on the residents of Korogocho to appreciate him.

“You have seen what the president has done, now a child from this area has received a fully paid scholarship till he reaches Form Four, please clap for the president,” directed Sakaja.

What was Ruto doing in Korogocho?

On September 12, Ruto launched the Climate WorX Mtaani Initiative in the Korogocho area of Nairobi.

The project is a National government initiative to engage about 200,000 youth in environmental sustainability programmes.

The Climate WorX Mtaani initiative will start in Nairobi and then spread to other counties, providing employment to jobless Kenyans countrywide.

The head of state assured the residents that he would start a fishing project in the Nairobi River after it is cleaned up.

William Ruto offers 100 scholarships

In a separate occasion reported by TUKO.co.ke, Ruto announced 100 scholarship opportunities for Comoros students to study in Kenya.

Ruto said he offered Comoros the scholarship opportunities because of the good relationships between the two nations.

He announced this during the 48th anniversary of the independence of the Union of Comoros, which he attended in July 2023.
