The Luhya Community in the USA and Canada staged a major festival that sought to bring together all Luhyas and their families in what they called the Kenya - Luhya Cultural Festival Extravaganza 2024.

It was a blazing night defined by dance and appetite featuring the Litungu Gospel Vibes maestro and legendary pastor Timothy Kitui.

Popular tunes from Luhya land were performed live by the Litungu Gospel Vibes Band with Tantalising DJ loops.

How did Luhya festival in US go down?

As touted by the organisers, when it comes to Luhya music, dance and food, everyone is Luhya.

The event attracted other communities from Kenya and beyond, unlike in the past, when Luhya nights were characterised by dancing, food, and drinking.

The Luhya Cultural Festival in the USA has evolved into a grand socio-economic movement.

The festival was structured to include children, with the aim of exposing them to their roots and affording them an opportunity to experience their culture.

The festival brought together established businessmen and women from Luhyaland, professors, investors and other impacting registered groups from Luhyaland.

“We cannot just be gathering to drink and dance; it is time the Luhya community got known for the bigger things that we are doing the world over,” said the chairman, Alex Inyagwa.

Among the landmark projects that were celebrated during this festival was the Wema Project, a multi-billion real estate project that is developing the attractive Wema Gardens in Riat, Kisumu.

All Luhyas doing major business in the USA and Canada were given a chance to showcase their work to the world.

It was amazing to realise how Luhyas have acquired property and made huge investments in the diaspora rather than at home.

According to Wema Magharibi Ltd Chairman George Mudachi, the Wema Gardens project is attracting hundreds of investors from the diaspora and will set a pace for other mega projects that will transform the western region.

In his performances, Pastor Kitui led the crowd to chant:

“The rhetoric vibe that Luhyas make good watchmen, domestic cooks, and house helps must die! Our children shall hold positions of influence in the marketplace and on the world stage!”.

The night was indeed full of fun, motivational and eye-opening experiences.

It was an all-Kenyans-in-USA affair at the Armenian Cultural Center Street Worcester, Massachusetts.

Luhyas flew in from as far as Canada, Seattle, Atlanta, and Pennsylvania. Only two things were required: dancing shoes and an appetite.

“They deserved a high-voltage experience, I am glad we delivered exactly that," Pastor Kitui shared with TUKO.co.ke.

Gloria Muliro set to host powerful church event

In a separate article, veteran gospel singer Gloria Muliro decided to return to active ministry with a bang.

Muliro revealed that the event will feature gospel singer Angel Bernard, Pastor Kitui and Pastor Evance Sabwami.

Imanifest is an annual festival aimed at reviving the African diaspora community through worship and music.
