Machakos - A tragic accident occurred at Konza City along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway on Sunday, September 1, resulting in one fatality.

Two other individuals were injured when their pickup truck collided with a trailer from behind. Both vehicles were heading towards Nairobi, and the deceased died at the scene.

The wreckage was removed and towed to a police station. The injured were taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for treatment, Citizen Digital reported.

Wavinya Ndeti responds to Mombasa-Nairobi Highway crash

As the police investigate the incident, Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti has extended her condolences to the deceased's family and wished a swift recovery to the injured.

"I have learnt with sadness of the tragic accident that has happened on Mombasa Road along the Konza City stretch. My sincere condolences to the family who have lost their dear one. I also wish those who were injured a speedy recovery," said the governor.

She noted that the emergency team, alerted by the public, provided first aid at the scene before transporting the injured to the hospital.

"Our emergency crew received a distress call from members of the public. Our Muumandu ambulance crew responded within the shortest time and provided the requisite services to the injured before rushing them to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for specialised medical care," she added.

12 die in Nithi Bridge accident

In other news, 12 people perished on Nithi Bridge along Meru-Embu Road after their van collided with a pick-up truck.

The deceased included nine women returning from a parental blessing event in Meru county.

A witness reported to TUKO.co.ke that the van sped across rumble strips, veered off its lane, and collided with an oncoming vehicle.
