Dads are known to be particularly close to their daughters, and Morris Otieno Agan was no different.

Agan is the father of journalist and blogger Scophine Aoko, popularly known as Maverick Aoko.

Aoko was in police custody for the whole weekend following her arrest. Ahead of her plea taking, her father told TUKO.co.ke that he had travelled overnight by bus from Migori to be with his famous daughter.

She was arraigned on Monday, August 19, facing charges related to controversial posts on her X platform.

The journey was worth it for Agan after the court released Aoko on a KSh 100,000 bail.

"This is my first-born daughter and I had to travel overnight from Migori. I am very happy that she has been freed on bail. I could not even sleep.You can see for yourself how happy I am. I am a very happy parent,” Agan said.

Aoko was freed on a cash bail of Ksh 100,000 after denying three counts of publication of false information and cyber harassment.

She was arrested at her home on Friday, August 16 and she is set to return to court on September 2 for a pre-trial hearing of her case.

What are accusations against Maverick Aoko

According to the prosecution, the blogger and journalist is alleged to have used her social media handle to spread false and defamatory information about complainant Beth Wambui Mbuitu.

Senior Principal Magistrate Susan Shitubi, when ruling on her bail application directed that phones and laptops confiscated from Aoko during her arrest be exhibits and hence should not be released.

The court further directed the police officers to consider releasing them once they have een subjected to forensics investigations.

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that Kemunto Nyakundi, a Kenyan woman who left an abusive marriage a few years ago, praised her father for his role in keeping her alive.

The young woman knew how deep her father's love went when he learned that her husband mistreated her.

In a Facebook post, Kemunto disclosed that her father was so heartbroken by the news that he shed a tear.
