Migori: Worry As Suspected Mpox Case Alert Is Issued In Isebania

  • Isebania residents have asked the county government of Migori to enhance sensitisation on Mpox prevention
  • The calls come after a suspected Mpox case was reported in the area that left locals living in fear

Migori—Isebania residents are now living in fear over the Tanzania border crossing after a suspected MPox case was reported.

The residents have since asked the Migori county government to sensitise them to prevent the Mpox virus spread.

"Many people cross the border daily, and we interact with them, and this puts us at risk," Chacha Muitebe, a resident, told TUKO.co.ke.

He further mentioned that the county government should place guidelines to help curb the further spread of the virus.

The residents also called on the government to be prepared on management and containment of the virus in case of an outbreak.

"We want the government to be fully prepared with doctors and well equipped facilities that will help in handling the situation in case of any outbreak, " Silas Mwikali added.

However, the county government of Migori assured that they have already put in place measure to help eradicate the spread of the virus including conducting screening at the boarder points.

"We have a suspected case of monkey pox and we have dispatched our teams and they are already on the ground. No cause of alarm yet," Migori county Health Chief Officer Marbel Chanzu noted.

Chanzu also mentioned that the county has well equipped facilities and skilled doctors able to handle any cases.

She afirmed to the residents that there is no cause of alarm yet and that they should keep their guards up.

Migori county is bordering Tanzania through Isebania and Mihuru bay.

Are there Mpox cases in Kenya?

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that Ministry of Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa had issued a statement confirming that there are no Mpox cases in the country.

In a statement, Barasa announced that the first case of the disease, identified at the Taita Taveta One-Stop Border Point, had fully recovered.

She further clarified that Kenya has reported only one case of Mpox, involving an individual who traveled from Kampala, Uganda, to Mombasa, then to Rwanda via Tanzania through Taita Taveta, and is now recovered.
