The Ministry of Health has joined the family and friends of the late medical intern Desree Moraa in mourning her passing.

In a press statement obtained by TUKO.co.ke, Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa paid tribute to Moraa, noting that as a medical intern, she had already impacted many lives through her passion and dedication to healthcare.

"It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we mourn the untimely passing of Desree Moraa, a young, dedicated health care professional with so much potential, but whose life was tragically cut short," the statement read in part.

Barasa noted that Moraa's death serves as a reminder of the challenges that healthcare professionals face in their work.

"As a frontline caregiver, she was devoted to improving the lives of others, yet we are reminded that even those who provide care sometimes face unseen battles of their own," Barasa added.

The Health Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to establishing a strong workplace mental health program in memory of Moraa to support healthcare workers across the country.

How did Desree Moraa die?

This follows reports that Moraa experienced frustration and depression before her death on the evening of Sunday, September 23.

Until her death, the 27-year-old was an intern doctor at the Gatundu Level 5 Hospital.

Her friend stated that the deceased was not in good mental form after altercations at her station of work.

Moraa was working in the surgery department. According to her friend, she was involved in an altercation with a harsh supervisor.

This was after she had worked in a 36-hour shift back-to-back.
