Kakamega - Lurambi MP Titus Khamala has told off critics who have labelled opposition leader Raila Odinga a traitor.

The MP further blasted a section of Kenyans opposed to his bid to become the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson.

In a passionate address to his supporters, Khamala criticised those who, according to him, have continuously undermined Raila's efforts.

"There are people with dirty hearts. When Baba Raila stands for votes, they don’t want him; when he asks for votes, they won’t vote for him," Khamala declared, referring to the growing number of Kenyans who have been vocal in their opposition to Raila.

What does Khamala think of Raila's critics?

Khamala expressed frustration with what he deemed an unjustifiable backlash against the veteran politician.

A cleric, Khamala added that the Raila’s attempts to defuse tensions in the country and pursue a continental duty were also met with disdain rather than support.

The MP argued that despite Raila’s consistent readiness to serve Kenya, his critics remain relentless in their opposition.

"If the country is on fire and he decides to speak to President Ruto to calm things down, they don’t want that. If he says Kenyans should let him be and that he is going back to Africa, they still don’t want that. What do they want!? And who do they want?! What a joke," Khamala added.

Ruto asks Kenyans to support Raila

On Saturday, August 24, President William Ruto urged Kenyans to rally behind the ODM leader in his quest to become the next AUC chairperson.

Speaking in Kakamega, the president observed that the longstanding Kenyan opposition leader merits to be at the helm of the African Union secretariat, thus the need for compatriots to bless his candidature.

Ruto noted that Raila's win in the race would connote Kenya's strides and enhance Kenya's outlook on the international stage.

Meanwhile, the ODM leader announced he would be taking a break from local politics to focus on his campaign for the continental job.
