Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Njeri said he waited for her for at least seven years before making things official.

"He was a good man. He would buy me presents like shoes and treat me like a queen. He was very respectful and an amazing man," she said.

Why did Njeri's husband refuse to pay dowry?

Their marriage yielded four children, but friction emerged between Njeri and her man because of different customs and cultures.

He refused to pay dowry, saying it was not acceptable in his culture for a man to do so, which caused a rift between him and his in-laws.

"We had already talked about it, and he was ready to pay, but he changed the narrative when I took him to our home. My parents were bitter, and I felt very disappointed," the Murang'a woman said.

The 50-year-old shared her husband started becoming abusive and disrespectful towards her and her faith.

Why was Njeri's daughter taken to India?

He even wanted the kids to know more about Hinduism and not Christianity, as was Njeri's faith, which angered her.

"He was an Indian priest. He even took our daughter to India for three years to learn about their culture. He never wanted them to learn about Christianity, yet he said he was okay with my faith, but he preferred his over mine," she said.

Njeri said they would be under her husband's name whenever they bought properties, leaving her out of the deal.

She opted out of the union when she could no longer take it any more after she allegedly heard the voice of God.

"True love does not exist. Love is both blind and stupid. If someone tells me they love me they have to show it through actions," she said.

In another story, Mary Kelvins was a shell of herself when her marriage ended, and she was left to fend for her kids alone.

The struggle, coupled with the fact that she was jobless, made her sink into depression.

However, strangers held her hand and helped her get a well-paying job that helped transform her into a glowing woman.
