Advice Moi University gave students due to condom shortage?

To avert health crises that may emanate from irresponsible behaviour in the face of the limited supply of the particular contraceptive, the university asked the staff and scholars to abstain from any sexual activities.

Those in romantic relationships were counselled faithful to their trusted partners.

They were, however, given the alternative of sourcing the wares from commercial outlets outside the campus.

"Always keep yourself busy with other worthwhile activities. Prevention is better than cure," the memo added.

How financial crises have grounded Moi University

Besides running short of condoms, Moi University has been cash-strapped for a time.

Successive audit reports by the Auditor General have always indicated that the institution, situated in Kesses, 35 kilometres from Eldoret City, is broke and cannot meet its financial obligations unless it receives support from the government and lenders.

However, while acknowledging the financial crisis, vice-chancellor Professor Isaac Kosgey is always optimistic that the institution will once again bounce back to profitability.

For instance, three years ago, an Auditor General's report showed that Moi University had accrued debts upward of KSh 4.5 billion, and had its operations paralysed as lenders camped in to demand their dues.
