Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Burugu, a professional dancer, said she got called up for an event in Mombasa.

"I did not have anyone to leave my kids with, so I packed my bags and took them to my mother's home. No one would consider caring for someone else's kids if they heard they were going that far for a few days. I took my kids to my mum's home and left them at the gate. Then I headed to Mombasa," she said.

Why was Burugu remanded for 14 days?

The gesture infuriated Burugu's mother, who took the children to the police station the following day.

Burugu received a call from the police while in Mombasa and was told the situation back home, being urged to return as soon as she could.

"They even sent me fare to return home. When I did, my aunt told me to report to the police station as I was a wanted person. I was locked up for three days since it was on Friday until Monday, when I appeared in court. I was remanded for 14 days, then returned to court, where the judgment was passed. I would be jailed for three years with my kids," she cried.

The woman from Murang'a said her efforts to talk to her mum bore no fruit. She said she was tired of her daughter and grandkids, who were a nuisance.

In another story, Catherine Mukonyo's family was over the moon after she was freed from jail, where she had spent 17 years of her life.

Mukonyo was sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder, but her sentence was reduced because of good behaviour.

When she left the prison gates, she had a crown on her head and was welcomed into the world by singing wardens and the SDA church.
