Nairobi - Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza is undergoing an impeachment trial following multiple allegations from Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

The MCAs have accused Mwangaza of abusing her office, violating the Constitution, and committing gross misconduct, allegations the governor denied.

Why did Senate pause Mwangaza's impeachment trial?

On the third day of her Senate trial, a dramatic incident disrupted the proceedings.

An unidentified woman’s loud screams caused significant disruption, making it difficult to continue the examination of the governor’s alleged actions.

Speaker Amason Kingi had to suspend the Tuesday, August 20 session while sergeant-at-arms and other officials rushed to address the situation.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the woman’s voice may belong to the mother of Daniel Sniper, who was allegedly murdered because of his critical views on Meru politics and Mwangaza’s leadership.

Sniper’s body has remained unburied since December 2023, as his family still awaits justice.

Kawira Mwangaza turns biblical ahead of impeachment

Senators decided to use the plenary to investigate the charges brought against Mwangaza by the Meru MCAs.

The day following this crucial decision, Kawira took a biblical stance to express her lack of concern about the impeachment motion.

Without citing a specific Bible verse, she conveyed her belief that God would defend and protect her from the schemes of her adversaries.

Kawira asserted that God would ensure she witnessed the downfall of those plotting against her.
