Before the incident, residents stormed the facility, demanding to see the speaker.

However, security personnel intervened at the gate, informing them that the speaker was unavailable and resorted to using tear gas to disperse the furious crowd.

"Governor, if you are tired, go home. You have fired residents of the county yet your relatives, including your mother are earning a salary from the county government. We are not leaving this assembly until morning hours," a resident alleged.

What could have caused chaos among Nandi MCAs?

Senator Samson Cherargei commented on the situation, revealing that an impeachment motion against Governor Stephen Sang has been initiated.

Cherargei alleged that ghost workers had been improperly hired within the county government, blaming the governor for their appointments.

He stated that these workers, initially brought on as cleaners, had never performed their duties until a forensic audit was launched.

Cherargei insisted that the MCAs should move on with impeachment proceedings, expressing his readiness to support the motion.

"We have sent the Gen Zs of Nandi to greet them in good faith about initiating impeachment. I am ready. When it lands in the Senate, we shall go the Mwangaza way," he stated.

Sang has also faced allegations of excessive spending on travel costs.

Governor Stephen Sang fires 1,800 workers

Meanwhile, these developments follow Sang's recent decision to fire 1,800 county workers to address human resource issues, citing the presence of numerous ghost workers that had inflated the payroll by 5,000 employees.

The decision was met with backlash from the affected employees, who threatened to disrupt county activities.

In response, the county boss urged them to challenge his actions legally and emphasised that anyone found responsible for misconduct, including his relatives, would face the law and be required to repay their unlawfully earned salaries.
