Nyandarua - Two young children have tragically lost their lives after a devastating fire engulfed the house.

In the Tuesday, August 27 night incident at the Heni Dispensary staff quarters, the children were left alone by their mother, a nurse, who had gone out briefly to buy milk.

How did Nyandarua children die in fire incident

Upon her return, she was met with the horrifying sight of the entire house consumed by flames with the children, aged six and four, inside.

According to a police report, the fire broke out at approximately 7:50 pm with the first floor of the staff quarters, which had a wooden floor, completely burnt.

"Police officers visited the scene and it was established that the fire started at around 1950hrs and had razed all the first floor of the staff quarters made of wooden floor," read a police report in part.

Emergency services, including a fire brigade from Naivasha, responded to the scene and extinguished the fire, but it was too late to save the children.

The bodies of the young victims were retrieved from the scene and are currently preserved at the Engineer Hospital Mortuary, where they await an autopsy.

Clinician dies after jumping into burning house

In another tragic incident, Hulda Halwoni Mahikizo, a clinical officer, died following a fire in his house.

The medic based at Port Reitz Hospital in Mombasa died in a fire after she entered her house to rescue her two-year-old son.

According to witnesses, Huldah was at her chemist, a distance from her house, in the evening when the fire broke out.

They stated that her maternal instincts immediately took over, and she jumped into the fire to try and save her son, who was sleeping in the bedroom.

A report by Nation revealed that once she got into the house, she continued to battle the fire until she was overwhelmed by the smoke.

Her husband, George Sewaali, was at a neighbour's compound, and when he arrived, there was nothing he could do.
