Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Njenga expressed his fears about asking Kendi to be his girlfriend because she was staying abroad.

"I had to be sure she would still commit despite the long distance. I also had to ask myself if I was ready for a long-distance relationship. Many ladies want to go abroad and get married to a mzungu man. I knew she was pretty, and other men would eye her. If I wanted to have a relationship with, I had to make tough choices," the businessman said.

He added that trust was paramount to their relationship's longevity and stability because of their unique setting.

Does long-distance relationship work?

Kendi's work was demanding, and since her first family was also abroad, she was compelled to travel to the US.

"Anything built on God and in love will stand. Long-distance marriage has never been an issue because of trust, commitment and constant communication. I trust him; he trusts me, so it is a win-win. Whenever he goes to watch a football match, he updates me. We at least talk four times daily, which is healthy for us," the flight attendant said.

The couple also shared that they do not have separate bank accounts but one they have used since they started dating.

Having a joint account stabilised their trust, but they encouraged others to do what works for them.
