Nairobi - It is a poorly kept secret that the Kenya Kwanza boat is rocking with Kenyans witnessing another fallout between a sitting president and his deputy.

During a recent interview on Citizen TV, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua demonstrated how his relationship with President William Ruto had deteriorated.

The DP lamented being removed from a WhatsApp group where Ruto's diary is updated, hampering his efforts to attend presidential functions.

Gachagua recounted being embarrassed and ridiculed during King Charles III's visit to Kenya, claiming memes about him were generated by State House operatives.

He appealed to the president to keep his pre-election promise that his deputy would never be persecuted by junior officers.

What did Ruto promise Kenyans about Gachagua?

In yet another proof that the internet never forgets, a video from an interview done before the 2022 General Election has provided a contrast between the two leaders' relations.

The then Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate, Ruto, expressed his optimism about the relationship between him and Gachagua.

In the interview on NTV, Ruto dismissed the possibility of a fallout with Gachagua should they win the presidential election.

"I want to tell you, Joe, that what you've said will never happen. It will not happen. I want to tell you that I will not allow, for example, my running mate or my deputy president to be humiliated by junior staff; in fact, I've said it as much; I have committed myself in writing that there are responsibilities that my DP will carry," Ruto said.

When asked what he would do should there be a fallout, he said,

"There is law. If he abuses office, there's a law to deal with him."

When will Gachagua be impeached?

Meanwhile, Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina declared that Gachagua's term in office is coming to an end.

In a fiery speech, Maina claimed that Gachagua’s political fate is sealed, hinting at an imminent push for his impeachment.

The outspoken legislator referenced Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi's cryptic message on Gachagua's fate.

Maina did not hold back in her criticism of the deputy president for what she described as arrogance and chest-thumping before Ruto.
