Comedian Eric Omondi has advised pastor Ezekiel Odero to refrain from political involvement.

Speaking to Plug TV, the funnyman advised the televangelist to stop criticising the government or President William Ruto in his sermons.

What did Eric tell Pastor Ezekiel?

"I have heard some of his sermons and I would advise him to avoid that and preach the gospel or the church will be closed. Let him preach about Jesus, healing, and salvation otherwise, his church will be closed," he said.

Why was New Life church deregistered?

Eric's advice followed the recent deregistration of Odero's church by the state.

The preacher, through his lawyer Danstan Omari argued the move to shut down his church was done out of malice and was meant to frustrate and humiliate him.

Omari dismissed claims that his client has not been filing returns, adding that allegations were unfounded and baseless.

He submitted that despite endless attempts by the preacher through his lawyers to get the church's file from the registry for purposes of filing annual returns, the registrar refused to avail the file making it impossible for him to file returns.

Pastor Ezekiel wins against state

The High Court suspended the decision by the Registrar of Societies to deregister the church.

The court's order will remain in effect until an application filed by the preacher to challenge the registrar's decision to close down the church is heard and determined.

In his ruling on Monday, August 22, Justice Jairus Ngaah prohibited the state and its agents from interfering with the operations of the church.

"An order of prohibition restraining the 1st Respondent by itself, its agents, or anyone else under its instructions from engaging in any manner of disruption or obstruction of the operations of New Life Prayer Centre and Church, under the guise of effecting the enforcement of the deregistration published in the Gazette Notice.
Leave is so granted to operate as a stay of the 1st Respondent's directive cancelling the registration of the Applicants New Life Prayer Centre and Church as announced in the Gazette Notice published on the 18th of August 2023," the order stated.
