Lamu - President William Ruto has continued with his scathing attack on the opposition Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party over the anti-government demonstrations.

Speaking in Lamu county on Thursday, July 27, Ruto observed that the demonstrations were ruining the country's reputation.

(Please let us stop damaging the reputation of our country. All these plans we have as a country we shall join forces and implement them)," Ruto said.

At the same time, the head of state disclosed that China sent a special envoy to him to inquire about the unrest in the country during the anti-government protests.

Kenya-China relations

The president said the envoy came in last week following an earlier agreement with Kenya to construct and upgrade roads including the Lamu-Garissa Road.

"Wiki iliyopita alinitumania, kumekuja Special Envoy kutoka China. (Last week, the Chinese president sent a special envoy to inquire what was happening in the country because they have been watching)," Ruto explained.

According to Ruto, the Chinese envoy asked him if Kenyans were interested in building or destroying their country.

(He asked me whether we want to build or destroy our country. So, you see the effects of these protests?)" Ruto posed.

The high cost of maandamano

In a related story, TUKO.co.ke earlier reported that Kenyans will have to part with about KSh 200 million to repair roads damaged during Azimio anti-government protests in Kisumu.

Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen said the ongoing demonstrations continue to inflict pain on 'common mwananchi'.
