Insights into Ruto's trip to the US

Seeking insights into the president's tour of the US, TUKO.co.ke spoke to Dr Patrick Maluki, who is the chairman at the Department of Diplomacy and International Studies at the University of Nairobi, who shed light on why the trip is important to Kenya.

According to Maluki, Ruto’s visit does not simply represent America’s renewed commitment to the African continent, a promise President Biden made almost two years ago at the US-Africa Leaders Summit.

"Tightening US-Kenya relations is also about building and safeguarding a more resilient global economy led by the United States," he pointed out.
"Investing in emerging economies like Kenya is an insurance policy against geopolitical shocks, namely from China and Russia," added the chairman.

He further pointed out that emerging economies, including India, Brazil, Indonesia, and Kenya, are poised to contribute to the global value chain in strategic sectors.

These include but are not limited to batteries for electric vehicles, chips for critical technologies, and mineral and metal mining and processing.

"With their human capital, natural resources, and manufacturing potential, deepening US-commercial ties with emerging economies have the potential to help American companies, and the global economy," said Maluki.
