A Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) job advertisement doing rounds on social media is fake.

KCB Bank distanced itself from the advert which promises Kenyans over 200 job openings, terming it as fake.

In a notice to the public on Friday, May 3, KCB urged Kenyans to be vigilant against such information.

"This is FALSE. We urge the online community to remain vigilant and disregard this fraudulent information," read the notice in part.

The lender noted that all official communications regarding jobs and other relevant information are relayed via its official social media platforms or other official bank channels.

What makes the KCB job advert fake?

The logo used in the advert is not the original logo used by the bank.

Further, the email address shared in the job advert for applicants to submit their applications also raises eyebrows.

It bears the extension @outlook.com, yet the banks' official email should end with @kcbgroup.com.

Cases of online job fraud have been common across the country.

In February 2023, Kenyans were warned about a new online scam involving individuals posing as 'Jumia virtual assistants' offering enticing part-time job opportunities.

The scam involved luring unsuspecting individuals to follow telegram groups for job updates, sending screenshots as proof of completion, and receiving small stipends to gain trust.

Has KCB advertised jobs?

This came a month after the lender sought to recruit managerial and assistant positions across various departments within the company in March 2024.

The open vacancies included roles such as senior managers for card issuing, cybersecurity program management, and integrations & APIs, catering to different skill sets and interests.

KCB encouraged qualified candidates to apply, including those with disabilities, emphasising its commitment to diversity and inclusivity in the workplace.
