Engineer Mwaura, affectionately known as ‘Papa’ for his fatherly demeanour and leadership, made a grand entrance atop a live-line truck.

As he stepped down, he handed over his work tools—a reflector jacket and helmet— as staff cheered on.

His journey with Kenya Power began in January 1989.

After completing a rigorous two-year graduate engineer apprenticeship, Mwaura dedicated himself to the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Division.

What position did Eng Mwaura hold?

His career saw him rise through the ranks, from working in emergency services to overseeing the Common Services team.

"His team handled underground cables and 66kV sub-transmission in Nairobi," Kenya Power writes.

In 2014, he was promoted to the Regional Manager position for the Nairobi North Region.

Papa later became the General Manager of Network Management in December 2019, a position he held until retirement.

What was Eng Mwaura's specialty?

Engineer Mwaura was part of the brainchild of Liveline operations in distribution and sub-transmission networks.

He has also been the Chairman of the Status of the Network Committee, an energy sector committee.

"Mwaura is the most experienced engineer in underground cables, which he revamped and equipped with the capacity to handle all voltages up to 220kV," reads part of the statement.

He has worked all his time in Nairobi, mainly because of the concentration of underground cables.

Engineer Mwaura’s retirement marks the end of an era for him at Kenya Power, but his legacy will continue to inspire future engineers.

Long-serving KQ pilot retires

In an almost similar story, Captain Harpal Sokhi recently bid goodbye to Kenya Airways after years of service.

During his tenure at the national airline, he worked with renowned pilots like Irene Mutungi and his son Prit Pal.

Sokhi's friends and relatives were on board for the last flight, and many people shared touching words to bid him goodbye.
