The publication reported on the helicopter accident that killed Iran President Ebrahim Raisi and eight other senior government officers.

Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, the representative of the Iranian supreme leader to the province, among others, were pronounced dead after the helicopter crashed on Sunday, May 19.

Initial reports indicated that the helicopter suffered a “hard landing” near Jolfa in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province on Sunday, May 19, amid poor weather conditions in the region.

World leaders, including President William Ruto, sent their condolence messages to the people of Iran following the tragic incident.

Ruto eulogised the fallen head of state as a fearless and distinguished public servant with a great vision for Iran.

"President Raisi was a fearless leader and a dedicated public servant with a long and distinguished career in public service. He was a firm leader committed to the causes he believed in and sought to elevate Iran's standing on the global stage," Ruto said.

The Kiswahili publication reported on the arrest of the former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa’s bodyguard.

Aziz Ali Keyoka was arrested over allegations of supplying firearms, hand grenades, and teargas canisters to a suspected syndicate of thugs linked to committing robberies in the city and disrupting and dispersing political gatherings in Nairobi and Western Kenya

Milimani Magistrate Robinson Ondieki ordered Aziz, who was charged alongside fake Kenya Defence Forces Captain Koffi Bill Atinda, his driver Kennedy Otieno Omwanda, and businessman Kennedy Odhiambo to be remanded at Capitol Hill Police Station until May 24, when he will rule on whether they will be released on bond or not.

Officer Aziz alone faced two charges of neglecting his official duty as per the National Police Service rules by failing to surrender 14 blanks of ammunition and three teargas canisters to the armoury on May 17, at Kizito area in Mwihoko, Kiambu county.

The paper reported on the ongoing rift in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance after a section of Mt Kenya leaders claimed there was a plot to undermine Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga hinted at a possible fallout between President William Ruto and Gachagua on Sunday, May 19.

The tough-taking Kahiga said the people of the Mt. Kenya region will not allow Gachagua to be mistreated like Ruto was allegedly mistreated under former president Uhuru Kenyatta's administration.

However, National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro is back, accusing Mt Kenya leaders of trying to blackmail the president.

A section of Kenya Kwanza leaders have also been criticising Gachagua after he publicly supported the controversial 'one-man, one-vote, one-shilling' revenue-sharing formula

The paper reported that International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim A.A. Khan filed an application seeking an arrest warrant for Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In a statement on Monday, May 20, Khan also wants Israel's Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, arrested.

Khan said his office believes Netanyahu and Yoave have committed crimes against humanity in the ongoing Gaza war.

"On the basis of evidence collected and examined by my office, I have reasonable grounds to believe that Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, and Yoav Gallant, the Minister of Defence of Israel, bear criminal responsibility for the following war crimes and crimes against humanity committed on the territory of the State of Palestine (in the Gaza strip) from at least October 8, 2023," Khan said in his application.
