Kilifi: A Kenya Defences Forces (KDF) officer is being detained at the Kambe Ribe Police Station over an alleged case of assault perpetrated on a police officer.

Sergeant George Lenga is reported to have attacked an officer while blocking the arrest of his relative.

How KDF soldiers landed himself in problem

As per a police report spotted by TUKO.co.ke, Lenga's cousin, Tyson Shabaki, was accused of an assault case, with the police tracing him for arrest.

Shabaki's family had agreed to avail him to the Bondora Police Post but Lenga would obstruct the police.

The officer belonging to the KDF 6 brigade in Garissa is said to have assaulted an officer by twisting his right hand at the wrist joint and punching him in the chest with his fist.

With the help of his uncle, the KDF officer then broke the steel door and window pane to the report office, freeing his detained cousin.

They turned to the complainant of the assault case, who was also present, beating him at the report office.

Other officers responded and managed to arrest the duo, placing them in cells.

Cases of KDF soldiers and the police displaying their animosity publicly have been on the rise in recent days.

KDF-police drama in Lodwar

A few weeks back, another drama between the police and KDF officers ensued in Turkana county.

It was on April 17 when an officer attached to the Lodwar Police Station manning a roadblock faced it rough at the hands of a group of army men.

The KDF officers onboard their water truck demanded the officer remove the roadblock for them to pass.

But the cops' delay would irk the KDF soldiers, who descended on the officer with a slap before seizing his firearm, prompting a reaction from Lodwar Police Station.

The aggrieved officer's colleagues rushed to arrest the KDF officers, whose efforts to resist arrest proved futile as the law enforcers took them to the station.

What would follow was the detained soldiers' colleagues storming the Lodwar Police Station to demand their release.

It took the intervention of Turkan Central Sub-County police commander Samwel Boit, who engaged the soldiers' bosses and calmed them down.

The soldiers were, after all, booked into custody ahead of the arrangement to face robbery with violence charges.
