Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah has found himself in the midst of an online uproar after claiming that Kenya Kwanza government is doing a good job in stabilising the country's economy.

Through a statement on X (formerly twitter), Ichung'wah stated the government made strategic moves to drive the country's economic revival.

What did Kimani Ichung'wah do?

He added that the current governments tactics differ from the populist choice of consumer subsidies which hurt the country's economy.

"These subsidies had proven to be costly and favoured merchants over consumers. Although Kenya Kwanza's decision was initially unpopular and caused short-term discomfort, it is now yielding positive results," he said.

To support his argument the MP posted pictures of the prices of various products from February to the April. The pictures depicted how the prices of commodities have dropped.

His post did not go down well with a section of the online community who labelled it a government propaganda while reminding him of the punitive tax measures the regime had imposed.

Kenyans react to Kimani Ichung'wah's comments

Ichungwah's statement has sparked an outrage with some completely disagreeing with the MP as others agreed with him.

Anwarr Sadat said.

"Kenyans continue to pay higher taxes, their net income continues to decline, and companies continue to close shop."

Mhenga Maarufu said.

"KK's propaganda is so lazy and tedious."

Douglas Orangi said

"Hope we'll always be corking the champagne."

Okach Kevin said

"Be Serious Mheshimiwa, Kenyans are not gullible."

ArujiMc said.

"You create a problem and you solve it then you congratulate yourself for working. That's what we call our own goal."

Patrick Mutune said

Rutonomics, Increase fuel by 60 bob. When they complain, reduce by 17 bob. They will clap for you and say how you have stabilized the economy.

Mkenya said

"Congrats to the government. But we need to do more. again some of the figures you have put there are not true. example unga was retailing at 210 saa hii iko 139 in most supermakets but kwa shop 250,"

William Ruto on forex value

Recently President William Ruto on Sunday, April 14, attributed the strength of the shilling and drop in fuel and unga prices to the tough fiscal measures his government took in the past year.

Ruto spoke after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) reduced prices of super petrol, diesel, and kerosene down by KSh 5.31, KSh 10 and KSh 18.68 per litre, respectively.

Ruto challenged all leaders to lead from the front, citing that developed countries made the right decisions.
