A Mai Mahiu woman identified as Mary Muthoni is set to get land and a house courtesy of well-wishers after she lost eight family members in the raging floods that affected their area.

In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Mary said that on that fateful day, they had met as a family to raise money for her son, who was in jail.

"Our houses were just next to each other; theirs was behind, and my house was at the front. When the water came, it swept both houses away, and I survived together with another kid by fighting hard against it," said Mary.

Mary lost her lastborn daughter, six grandkids, and her daughter-in-law.

"Pray for this woman; it's not easy at all; the ,house for her.firmkilometres.Pray for tomorrow, intercede, please. She just needs a rest in her own home. Wooi Jehovah giver of blessings remember this woman they way you remembered Job," prayed Nungari during the burial.

Emotional sendoff at Longonot cemetery

Mary buried her family members in an emotional sendoff attended by many people. Ev Mercy Nungari rallied well-wishers to build a home for her a house after buying land.

"A very tough day it was in Longonot cemetery.God bless you, FB family, for your love toward our people.The only flower we can give our mother is to make sure she has her own home. God bless you for your prayers and for stretching your hand toward this family," she said.

When speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Mary indicated that she wanted to go live in Njoro, where pieces of land were being sold for KSh 1.4 million.

"I would like to go and live there, start my life all over again.They have nice land, and it is safe," she said.

At the moment, Mary and her remaining daughter are living in a rental house paid for by the government.

"They gave us unga for ugali, some food, clothes, blankets and mattresses. They also paid our house rent for three months," said the grieving mum.

In a recent update, Mary said she had received a call from Nungari, who was collecting the money for her. The evangelist told her that they are now at KSh 1000,000 and have since found a piece of land for the family. They need more money to start building the lady a house.

"Iam grateful to Kenyans who have stood with me at this difficult time when I was in the hospital for two weeks and the ones who want to gift me land and a home in Kinangop, where Nungari chose," she said.

Govt offers KSh 5,000 rent to victims

Another story revealed that Mai Mahiu residents who were displaced by floods were ordered to vacate the camps where they were accommodated after floods damaged their homes.

Those whose houses were not completely brought down were requested to leave the camps immediately.

A section of the victims aired their grievances, stating that the amount allocated for their eviction would not be enough.
