Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) captured a hyena that was seen roaming in Embakasi on Tuesday, May 28.

According to KWS, the National Police Service (NPS) informed them of the hyena on the loose, causing panic among the residents.

"The KWS Nairobi team recently received a distress call from the National Police Service 'A' campus in Embakasi about an unexpected visitor: A hyena on the loose!" Read the statement.

KWS, in a statement, said the hyena had relocated from its habitat at Nairobi National Park. After careful planning, it was successfully recaptured back to its habitat.

"After careful planning, the hyena was safely captured and relocated back to Nairobi National Park, its natural habitat.

The KWS called upon residents to work collaboratively to ensure that wildlife and humans are unaffected.

Additionally, they asked the public to use their hotline numbers in case they spot any wildlife around their vicinity.

"If you encounter any wildlife incidents, contact us through our 24/7 toll-free line 0800597000 or WhatsApp 0726610509 for immediate intervention. This highlights our dedication to peaceful coexistence between wildlife and the surrounding communities," KWS urged.

In a statement earlier after a lioness was captured jumping a perimeter wall in Ongata Rongai Kajiado county, KWS said the heavy rains have waterlogged the parks making wildlife to relocate to human settlements.

KWS assures residents of their safety

After the CCTV footage showing the lioness, KWS said it dispatched its special team to the area immediately but the lioness had already left.

However, KWS said a team of specialists Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC) and Problem Animal Management Unit (PAMU) were still in the area patrolling.

Hippo mauls man to death in Gilgil

Like Nairobi and Kajiado residents living in scare of attack by wild animals, Gilgil residents in Nakuru were sent into mourning after a hippo from Lake Elementaita mauled a man to death.

The stray hippo killed the man after it left its natural habitat, which was flooded. However, KWS officials in the region killed the hippo after it became stubborn to be captured.
