Nairobi - Tension gripped Fedha Estate as a lorry transporting liquefied petroleum gas burst into flames near a bus terminal.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, June 3, saw thick smoke engulfing the area around noon, while vehicles continued their transit.

In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Rodrigues Mulindi, Governor Johnson Sakaja's protocol officer, who was present at the scene, explained that the gas explosion occurred because of mechanical issues with the lorry, leading to a sudden ignition.

The gas truck fire in Fedha has been contained, despite rumours claiming there was no fire engine present," he disclosed.

Fortunately, no casualties or significant damages were reported, as the county emergency response team promptly extinguished the fire.

Footage from the scene captured a large crowd gathering, with residents urged to evacuate the area as a precaution.

Nairobi County police boss Adamson Bungei confirmed the temporary blockage of traffic on the affected road, advising motorists to find alternative routes.
