Moi University bans mini skirts

The Sigalala Polytechnic's ban follows a similar one by Moi University, which raised concern about increased cases of indecent dressing within its premises.

The higher learning institution based in Kesses, Uasin Gishu county, warned students to adhere to the dress code in the institution's regulations or face disciplinary actions.

Tumbo cuts, ripped jeans, micro mini skirts, transparent dresses and those that reveal bra straps, sagging trousers and plastic shoes were banned.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, a lecturer at the school who spoke on condition of anonymity said that the ban will help students concentrate more on learning.

"Additionally, it will help the students, especially female students, be safe from harassment from male students or people from outside. It's decent and safety combined," he said.
