A video of an elderly Kalenjin man harshly ordering his wife has angered women on social media.

Did Kalenjin man disrespect wife?

Recirculated from a KTN interview conducted in 2023, the video showed the man ordering the woman to serve mursik at their magnificent rural home.

The man seated outside with the journalist can be heard harshly ordering her to stop whatever she is doing and take the fermented milk beloved by the Kalenjin to where he is being interviewed.

When the man turns around and nonchalantly continues the interview, the seemingly shocked KTN reporter looks at his cameraman in bewilderment.

"You woman, come here right now and bring mursik with you. Leave whatever you are doing and hurry up. Are you hearing me? Oh," said the man.

Many women reacted to the clip by rebuking the man for belittling his wife. Others, however, said the nature of the couple's relationship was not adequately contextualised in the clip.

Njoki Ndung'u:

"Wololo, is he calling his wife or children?”

Wamboi Kuria:

"Very primitive behaviour. Is he addressing his daughter or?"

Kimeto Joy:

"Chepyosani can never be me."

Lee Morio:

"This is disrespectful; I am not disrespecting her like that."

Random:

"Jokes on you. Proper Kikuyu women don't need to be told; they have already done it; they are sharp like that."

Muthoni Kariuki:

"Good for her because that can never be me."

Recinne:

"I can't believe someone equals such disrespect to masculinity."

Locc City:

"Now I understand when Kalenjin ladies say they need their men to act right."

Winnie:

"In this generation, we are not tolerating this."

Are Kalenjin men toxic?

In January 2023, a trend on X about Kalenjin men and their perceived toxic masculinity went viral on social media.

Most Kenyan women narrated their dating experiences, saying Kalenjin men rarely marry outside their tribe.

According to the women who participate in the trend, dating a Kalenjin man is a recipe for heartbreaks.

Others, however, rushed to their defence, saying they are some of the romantic tribes in Kenya.
