Manchester United's 2024/25 season suffered an early setback following a painful last-minute defeat to Brighton over the weekend.

The Red Devils were heading to a 1-1 draw, but a defensive lapse allowed the Seagulls to score a winner in injury time to take maximum points.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has accused one Man United player for laughing at Erik ten Hag during his substitution.

The Red Devils have invested heavily this summer and are aiming for a much better return following a dreadful 2023/24 campaign in which they finished eighth.

Erik ten Hag is also under pressure to get his team to produce results and better performances on the pitch.

Against Brighton on Saturday, Man United produced an encouraging first-half display but faded in the second half. Bruno Fernandes's substitution saw them struggle to create opportunities.

Alejandro Garnacho's goal was ruled out for offside, and Brighton pushed and eventually got the winner late on.

Who laughed at Erik ten Hag?

On his Wrighty’s House podcast, Ian Wright faulted Erik Ten Hag's decisions, especially the substitution of Fernandes.

“A lot of things happened in that game that I just couldn’t understand or see happening," he said via Football365.

He claims the Portuguese playmaker laughed at his manager during his substitution.

“Like I can’t understand why he took Bruno off and went so defensive. Why are you taking him off? When he [Fernandes] ran off, he was actually smiling and laughing. He was like, “what the (expletive)? I can’t believe this guy.”
“That’s the vibe I got from it. If anyone is going to win a game for you it’s Bruno Fernandes.”

The Red Devils face arch-rivals on Sunday, looking to bounce back from the Brighton defeat.

Erik ten Hag appears to blame players

TUKO.co.ke earlier reported that Erik ten Hag appeared to blame three Man United players for Brighton's match-winning goal.

The Dutchman appeared to blame Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, and Kobbie Mainoo for not showing Simon Adingra the line as he attempted to assist the winning goal.
