Governor Wisely Rotich Listed Among Most Impactful Governors In 2024

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisely Rotich has been ranked among the top-performing county leaders, with an approval rating of 67%.

Why was Governor Rotich listed?

Rotich received high marks for allocating resources to impactful development projects in the county since taking office in September 2022.

The 38-year-old is one of the youngest governors in the country, with leadership that has significantly impacted the youth and women.

In a recent KenyaTrak poll, he was acknowledged for launching a revival plan for dormant cooperative societies in Elgeyo Marakwet County, including the ongoing automation of their operations.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke Rotich stated that he has played a key role in launching projects aimed at economically empowering the youth and other special interest groups through cooperatives.

"I'm passionate about community empowerment through entrepreneurship to create jobs and stable families as well as through implementation of sustainable development projects," said the governor.

Other top-ranked county leaders include Governors Eric Mutai (Kericho), Irungu Kang'ata (Murang'a), Simba Arati (Kisii), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Joshua Irungu (Laikipia), Kimani Wamatangi (Kiambu), and Susan Kihika (Nakuru).

What positions did Rotich occupy initially?

Before assuming the governor's position, Rotich served as the county director of cooperatives and later became the second deputy governor of Elgeyo Marakwet under governor Alex Tolgos, whose term ended in 2022.

Rotich holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Moi University and previously worked at the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Equity Bank before joining Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Gladys Wanga named best-performing governor

Earlier, Timely Kenya released a survey based on the performance of the 47 county governors.

The firm's CEO, Rozalia Tadeusz, told TUKO.co.ke that the survey was conducted between September 1 and September 9, 2023, and was based on the governors' one-year scorecard.

It covered a sample size of 2,043 respondents across the former eight (8) provinces with Kenyans aged over 18 years being contacted through a phone call.

The survey, which put Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga at the top, further revealed that female governors were doing better than their male counterparts (all are above 50% except the Meru governor).
