Renowned media personality Janet Mbugua has made history by becoming the first Kenyan to host the prestigious Goalkeepers event, an annual gathering organised by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

According to Mark Suzman, CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Goalkeepers brings together global advocates, heads of state, philanthropists, policymakers, and entertainers to discuss solutions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly focusing on health and nourishment in a rapidly warming world.

“This year, we’re focused on the more than 400 million children who aren’t getting the nutrients they need to grow and thrive. While climate change is making that challenge harder to solve, progress is possible. By scaling up existing tools, investing in promising research, and lifting up champions like the ones we’re celebrating today, we can help ensure all children can reach their full potential—and build global resilience as the world gets hotter," Suzman said.

The former news anchor highlighted the importance of addressing hunger to ensure that children worldwide receive the nutrients needed to grow and thrive.

"What we are here to talk about is how we can't make progress and achieve these goals if we don't tackle hunger. If the children everywhere are not getting nutrients, they need to grow and thrive," she said.

Janet's participation marks a significant milestone for Kenya on the global stage, and her advocacy aligns with her longstanding commitment to empowering young girls through her Inua Dada foundation.

The foundation focuses on fighting menstrual stigma, advocating for girls' rights, and supporting vulnerable girls with essential resources like sanitary pads.
