Kenyans of goodwill have raised KSh 707,854.54 in less than 24 hours since the first online appeal for a sick Form One student from Kikuyu, Kiambu County.

Perminus Njenga, suffering from cancer, has been bedridden for three weeks and is not able to see because his eyes are swollen.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Esther Njenga, the mother, confirmed that Kenyans had come through for her family during this tough time and contributed the sum in less than one day since their appeal.

While thanking those who have contributed and are still sending money for her son’s cancer treatment, Esther expressed a sigh of relief, adding that there is hope for her son.

“God is faithful, and God is great, I want to say thank you to everyone who has made this first step possible and even those who are still sending their contributions. There is hope for my boy,” she said.

She noted that they are yet to take Perminus to the hospital since the machine required for his scan is not found in many facilities in the country.

“We were to take him but we have been told the machine is broken, so we are currently looking for another hospital with the machine and one that will also accept NHIF,” she stated.

Why student who bagged Wings to Fly Scholarship is not in school

Perminus was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2023, a disease that has immensely affected his schooling as he has been on and off the hospital since then.

The latest was when his parents were called to pick him up from school only three days after he was admitted to Form One.

He had developed an infection and fallen sick. His parents could not raise the Ksh 7,500 required for a PET scan and treatment, leaving him bedridden for three weeks and unable to see.

Philanthropist Ndungu Nyoro, who has been leading the charge in rallying support for Perminus, thanked Kenyans, saying that Perminus is very excited to continue his journey to treatment and recovery.

“Friends, you are indeed true friends. For the last three weeks young Perminus who is battling cancer hasn't been able to access treatment. His mother told me they couldn't raise Kes 7,500 for a very important test and treatment. You heard her cry,” wrote Nyoro on Facebook.
“This morning, I have spoken with Mama Perminus, and she is lost for words. You turned around the situation in just a day. Perminus is very excited. Now you give him a chance to focus on his health. His recovery,” he added.

Kenyans willing to support the family can still do so by channeling their contribution through Mama Perminus’s Mpesa number, 0721371084 (Esther Njenga).

Perminus Njenga sent home from school

In another story done by TUKO.co.ke, the family of Perminus called on Kenyans to help them raise money for his cancer treatment.

He was forced to cut short his education after seriously falling ill in school, prompting the teachers to call his parents, who then took him home.

Esther Njenga stated that she was hopeful that with financial support, her boy would pull through and beat cancer, which has stolen a part of his life.
