Nairobi—The Directorate of Criminal Investigations's announcement of a cash reward for anyone with information on Collins Jumaisi's whereabouts has attracted mixed reactions from Kenyans.

What did the DCI promise?

On Thursday, August 22, the DCI asked the public to help locate the Kware murder suspect.

The DCI said anyone with information that could help re-arresting Jumaisi will be given a cash reward.

"A significant cash reward will be provided to anyone with credible information leading to the suspect's arrest. The suspect is from Shiru sub-location, Shaviringa location, Hamisi sub-county in Vihiga county," the DCI statement read in part.

However, the DCI did not disclose the exact reward amount for information on Jumaisi's whereabouts, describing it only as "significant."

The statement by DCI attracted mixed reactions from Kenyans, some questioning why the amount was not made public.

Other Kenyans wondered why the DCI was not interested in pursuing the 12 Eritreans who escaped together with Jumaisi.

How leaders questioned how Jumaisi escaped from custody

Meanwhile, leaders took to social media to express their disbelief, questioning how the 12 managed to escape from Gigiri Police Station given its tight security.

Outspoken lawyer Miguna Miguna argued that if Jumaisi disappeared from the station, then he was not responsible for the mass murder, mutilation and dumping of innocent Kenyans at the Mukuru quarry.
