National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has been sued for allegedly failing to pay KSh 281,000 to the dogs he ordered from a farmer.

Bethwel Isokat, a farmer, has taken Wetang'ula to a small claims court, claiming he delivered the dogs to Wetang'ula's residence in Karen on June 11, 2021.

What services did Moses Wetang'ula order?

According to court documents witnessed by TUKO.co.ke, Isokat, was asked by Wetang'ula to provide two German Shepherds, along with various supplies including dog food, training sleeves, a leash, choke chains, grooming brushes, a nail cutter, five litres of dog shampoo, and five litres of kennel disinfectant, totalling KSh 348,100.

"All the above amounted to a total of KSh 348,100. The claimant further avers that the respondent requested that he train his staff in the handling of the newly supplied dogs for one month which assignment the claimant agreed to undertake at a cost of KSh 50,000. Regrettably, the respondent failed to honour the agreement with the claimant herein by refusing to pay for the dogs supplied and for the training offered," the court statement read in part.

Isokat alleges that although Wetang'ula initially paid KSh 100,000, he has since refused to pay the remaining balance.

What does Betwel Isokat want from Wetang'ula?

The dog seller further informed the court that when he attempted to request the remaining balance, Wetang'ula allegedly responded rudely and insisted he would not pay.

Isokat claims that Wetang'ula's refusal to settle the debt has caused him significant psychological distress and left him with no choice but to seek judicial intervention.

He is now requesting the court's assistance in recovering the full amount owed and is also seeking general damages, coverage of the legal costs, and any other appropriate reliefs.

"The claimant further reached out to the respondent through various means to recover the said balance, but, the respondent rudely and adamantly informed the claimant that he would not pay him the remaining balance.
The claimant has indeed been psychologically tortured and again he stands to lose all the remaining balance if the court does not come in for his legal redress," his papers read in part.
