Uasin Gishu - Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri has levelled serious allegations against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The seasoned politician accused the DP of attempting to isolate the Mt Kenya region from the rest of the country as political preparations for the 2027 General Election gain momentum.

Speaking during a meeting at Queen’s Garden Hotel in Eldoret, Kiunjuri claimed that Gachagua’s recent efforts to consolidate support within Mt Kenya are part of a broader scheme.

He claimed the DP was scheming to split the government and diminish President William Ruto’s influence in the vote-rich region.

"We will oppose attempts by the deputy president to isolate the region as he is doing so for selfish political gains," Kiunjuri said in his native Kikuyu.

The lawmaker asserted the region would stand by the head of state whether Gachagua supports them or not.

What is Kiunjuri's appeal to Mt Kenya leaders

The Service Party leader voiced strong opposition to what he saw as Gachagua's attempts to undermine Mt Kenya's solidarity with the central administration.

The former Agriculture Cabinet secretary chastised Gachagua for focusing on regional politics instead of assisting the head of state in carrying out the Kenya Kwanza coalition's campaign pledges.

He stated that the conference in Eldoret is only the beginning of a series of activities intended to discuss and resolve the political issues caused by Gachagua.

"He has concentrated on the politics of Mt Kenya instead of helping the president deliver the Kenya Kwanza election pledges," he said.

The meeting, hosted by United Democratic Alliance nominated MP Joseph Wainaina, was attended by MPs Duncan Mathenge of Nyeri Town, John Kiarie of Dagoretti South, and James Githua of Kabete.

Kiunjuri claims govt funded protests

As reported earlier, Kiunjuri alleged that the government financed the protests against the finance bill.

Kiunjuri claimed that the recent demonstrations, which saw Kenyan youth storm parliament and cause significant damage, were backed by an office associated with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The lawmaker disclosed that during the protests on Tuesday, June 25, four politicians from the Mt. Kenya region mobilised 20,000 demonstrators, including 3,000 from Juja Constituency.
