Nairobi - A young man has vividly narrated the painful story of how he landed in jail for several years.

He claimed his mother-in-law framed him for abuse against his wife's brother, which saw him arrested and imprisoned.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the 28-year-old recalled his mum-in-law phoning his wife while he was with her.

"She told her that Peter, my wife's little brother, had been sexually assaulted. The suspect fled on a motorcycle when the young boy screamed. The mum-in-law claimed I was the suspect because I had a bike then but barely used the helmet.
"What stunned me was that I was with my wife as she talked to her mum-in-law on the phone, and I had never been to their homestead. I only used to leave them by the roadside and then let them walk home," he said.

Macharia taken to court after being arrested

Macharia said his mother-in-law never liked him because he was not as educated as her daughter and did not see him as a perfect fit for her.

One day, while Macharia was working as a boda boda operator, he was arrested and taken to the police station.

"I was later taken to the court, where they read my charges, which I denied. The case continued with several back-and-forths. I was first jailed for two years, during which I removed my wife's name as a witness because, after the two years, she sided with her family.
"The day my judgment was passed, I was given five more years in jail despite not having insufficient evidence on the case. The judge said the judgment was passed on a judge's opinion," the Nairobi man narrated.

Macharia recalls tough prison life

Macharia recently got out of prison and expressed his delight after being freed from the torture of being behind bars.

"It was tough, but I said God placed me there. Trusting a woman right now will be so hard. I cannot even think of marrying now. I have been derailed, and my life has taken a step back," he cried.

The inmate, who was just 19 at the time, recalled meeting her Kenyan boyfriend while visiting the Kenya-Tanzania border, unaware of the darkness that would follow.
