Lawyer Okiya Omtatah has been persistently advocating for justice amid various national development initiatives by the government.

Despite his commitment to the constitution, he has faced significant challenges.

Why was Okiya Omtatah assaulted?

In recently surfaced footage, Omtatah revealed that he has had 10 fake teeth installed due to previous assaults and has suffered two skull fractures, all stemming from his refusal to accept bribes to halt his opposition to government decisions.

"I do not have 10 teeth. The ones I have now are fake. They were knocked down because I refused a bribe of KSh 9 million. My skull has been broken twice but we must remain faithful," he alleged.

He recounted an incident in Busia county where he confronted President William Ruto and pledged to challenge the Finance Bill 2023 unless unconstitutional clauses were removed.

The Busia senator also disclosed that, following this confrontation, an undisclosed human rights activist attempted to bribe him with KSh 200 million.

"We have the power to deal with these people and the only way is to say no. If I had taken the 200 million that was sent to me through some civil society activist, and pulled out the finance bill I would not have gotten that achievement I got. I told that guy to keep his money as I keep my country," he went on.

Supreme Court suspends ruling nullifying Finance Act 2023

In other news, the Supreme Court issued conservatory orders, putting a hold on the Court of Appeal's ruling that deemed the entire Finance Act 2023 "fundamentally flawed" and "unconstitutional."

This decision temporarily alleviates concerns about the government's revenue collection efforts, which have faced significant scrutiny.

The Court of Appeal had previously invalidated the Finance Act 2023, supporting a High Court ruling that found that the legislative process did not meet constitutional standards.
