Later, in a statement, the aviation school confirmed the aircraft had two people on board, who survived with minor injuries.

"A Cessna 152, registration 5Y-PSJ, encountered an incident while flying over the National Park. There were two crew on board the aircraft. We are relieved to report that both are safe and unharmed," the institution said.

Police immediately embarked on probing the cause of the accident.

How planes' collision near Wilson Airport claimed 2 lives

This came months after two people died after two planes collided mid-air near the Wilson Airport.

It was in March this year when Dash 8, belonging to Safarilink Aviation Limited, en route to Mombasa, collided with a Cessna aircraft belonging to 99 Flying School after take-off after Wilson Airport.

The instructor and student who were onboard the Cessna aircraft died on the spot after the plane crashed at the Nairobi National Park.

The Safarilink plane returned to the airport and landed safely with 44 people on board.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) said in a statement that investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the collision would be undertaken.

A statement by Safarilink Aviation Limited indicated that its flight was headed to Diani with 39 passengers and five crew on board when it experienced "a loud bang soon after take-off."
