Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu has gazetted Hassan Omar as the interim secretary general of the ruling UDA party.

This appointment follows the recent impeachment of former secretary general Cleophas Malala by the party's National Executive Committee, which cited his failure to effectively fulfil his duties.

In a gazette notice seen by TUKO.co.ke, Nderitu called for any objections to the former Mombasa senator's gazettement to be submitted in writing within seven days of the publication.

"The Registrar of Political Parties gives notice that United Democratic Alliance (UDA) intends to change the following party official pending the interim party elections: Cleophas Malala former official, Hassan Omar interim official.

Any person with written submissions concerning the intended changes by the political party shall within seven (7) days from the date of this publication deposit them with the Registrar of Political Parties," the gazette read.

Meanwhile, the party is preparing for grassroots elections, which have previously been plagued by chaos.

Malala claims UDA officials planned his ouster

In other news, Malala accused Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah and Embu governor Cecily Mbarire of being behind his impeachment.

According to Malala, the accused UDA politicians forged his signatures and that of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua before his early morning ouster.

He warned against dragging President William Ruto's name into his "illegal" ouster as well as putting the blame on the formation of a broad-based government.
