Siaya: Rarieda Assistant Chief Killed After Stepping Out For Call Of Nature At Night

Siaya - Police in Rarieda Sub-County have launched an investigation into the brutal murder of Moses Oduor Mbeda, the assistant chief of Memba sub-location.

Mbeda was killed by unknown assailants early morning on Saturday, September 21, at his home.

What the Siaya police boss said about the murder

According to Siaya County Police Commander Serah Koki, the tragic incident occurred at approximately 1am when Mbeda stepped out of his house to use the pit latrine within his compound.

It was during this time that the attackers ambushed him, inflicting serious injuries, particularly hacking him severely on the neck.

Mbeda was rushed to Lwak Mission Hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead upon arrival due to the extensive injuries he had sustained.

“The assistant chief was immediately rushed to the nearby Lwak Mission Hospital where he was pronounced dead as a result of the severe injuries that he had sustained,” Koki said.

Authorities have since launched a thorough investigation into the murder, with officers working to establish the identities of those responsible for the heinous crime.

The body of the late assistant chief has been moved to Lwak Mission Hospital mortuary for preservation as investigators await the results of a post-mortem examination to further assist in the ongoing inquiry.

The community is in shock over the loss of Mbeda, and law enforcement has urged anyone with information to come forward to help bring the perpetrators to justice.

How a 20-year-old man was killed in Siaya

Still in Siaya county, a 20-year-old man was killed under unclear circumstances in the Ukwala location, Ugenya.

Citizen Digital reported that the death of the man ignited tension in the area, which led to the house of the suspected killer being torched.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said a group of about 10 young men stormed the home of Okech Okwako looking for his grandson.

During the incident, the angry youths torched Oketch's grandson's grass-thatched house, burning it into ashes.

Preliminary investigations indicate Oketch's grandson was among the people who allegedly attacked the deceased.

Police found the deceased’s body still lying dead along Awendo-Diraho Road, about 200 from the homestead with a deep cut on the left of the abdomen.
