Kenyan President William Ruto has officially begun his state visit to the US, where he will meet his US counterpart, Joe Biden, in Washington this week.

The visit has been billed as "historic" by Ruto's office, as it is the first state visit by a Kenyan president to the United States in two decades and the first by an African leader since 2008.

How Ruto travelled to USA

In Kenya, President William Ruto typically travels in an official presidential jet, a Fokker 70 ER, which was purchased in 1995 and is operated by the Kenya Air Force.

However, for his state visit to the United States, President Ruto chose not to use the usual Fokker 70 ER.

Instead, he travelled in an A6 RJU BBJ (Boeing Business Jet), a significantly larger aircraft than the traditional presidential jet.

The private jet Ruto is using is owned and operated by the RoyalJet Group, who described the plane as one of the newest in their fleet, having been added fresh from the factory in 2017.

The RoyalJet company has its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

How Kenya will benefit from William Ruto's US visit

As previously reported by TUKO.co.ke, during Ruto's state visit to the United States (US) on Thursday, May 23, Kenya will seek to attract trillions of shillings in investment.

Trade negotiations and trade shows are expected to take centre stage during the week-long trip.

According to Trade Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rebecca Miano, Kenya will pitch over 30 business ideas to prospective investors with the goal of closing deals worth over $20.5 billion (KSh 2.69 trillion).

Additionally, during the visit, two Kenyan brands, Vivo Fashion and Wazawazi, will open shops in the US markets.
