David Nduati Wataha was allegedly shot to death by Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe during a riot in Thika.

Witnesses claimed that the politician killed the youngster and injured others when he shot indiscriminately at members of the public.

Why was David Nduati at the market?

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke’s My Story, Nduati’s elder brother Alison Ndirangu recalled the dark day that changed their lives.

He disclosed that the 26-year-old had left the village and joined him in Kiganjo in Thika, Kiambu County, where they started hustling together.

The siblings were construction workers who saved enough money to buy motorbikes and do boda boda.

It all started when the brothers went to the Kamenu Market, where land was being allocated to small-scale business people.

What caused the chaos?

They managed to secure space from which they hoped to put up stalls and invest in business, unaware that trouble lay ahead.

As it happened, supporters of area MP Alice Ng’ang’a and those of Kamenu MCA Peter Mburu clashed, a disagreement that ended up in chaos.

“Police officers threw teargas to disperse the crowds, while one of the politicians pulled out his gun and started shooting indiscriminately. That is how my brother was shot,” he recalled.

The grieving brother recalled watching a bullet tear through his brother’s flesh before he fell and died.

How many people were shot?

A chilling video captured Kagombe, dressed in a white shirt and trousers, brandishing his pistol before shooting indiscriminately at the protesters.

Also shot during the same incident was 46-year-old Anthony Kamau, but he survived with a bullet lodged in his chest.

According to a doctor from Thika Level 5 Hospital, where Anthony Kamau was admitted, the bullet had penetrated the chest cavity and punctured a vital organ.

Area Assistant County Commissioner Philomena Nzioki was also injured during the chaos but was treated at Avenue Hospital and discharged.

Nduati's family wants justice

Ndirangu wondered why security officers did not stop the politician from using the firearm against the public without caution.

He added that they recorded statements at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, but nothing substantial has emerged. As the family struggles with the loss of their loved one, they are hoping that the accused politician will be brought to book for the sake of justice.

Ndirangu's main concern is that the MP still has a gun, which means he may soon use it against another innocent civilian.
