Kwale: 5 Killed As Speeding Motorcycle Rams Into Stalled Lorry

Kwale - Five people have been confirmed dead following a tragic accident along the Likoni-Kombani Road, in Kwale county.

The Sunday, September 15, morning accident involved a lorry and a motorcycle in the Denyenye area.

What Coast region police boss said about Kwale accident

Coast Regional Police boss George Sedah said five people died on the spot, and another person sustained serious injuries after the speeding motorcycle rammed into a stalled lorry from the rear side.

Sedah said the motorcycle was being ridden from Kombani towards Likoni when the incident happened.

“It seems there were six people on the motorcycle because one survived and was rushed to the hospital. We urge all parties, including pedestrians, to always be cautious for their safety," Sedah said.

According to police, the rider of the motorcycle was carrying five pillion passengers when the accident occurred at 1am.

Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the victims were all pillion passengers on a motorcycle.

The injured passenger was rushed to the Diani Beach Hospital in serious condition.

How did the Narok-Bomet accident occur?

In other sad news, three families in Narok were thrown into mourning after a motorbike their relatives were travelling on collided with a truck in the Masantare area along the Narok-Bomet Highway.

Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare confirmed the incident to the Kenya News Agency, stating that the rider attempted to overtake a vehicle but unfortunately collided head-on with an oncoming Isuzu FRR truck.

He added that the truck driver was fortunate to escape the incident without any serious injuries.

The motorcycle rider, 18, was reportedly travelling from Bomet Town with two 17-year-old passengers.

Kenyans concerned over increased road accidents

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that Kenyans online raised an alarm over the increase in road accidents in the past two months.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) reported 649 road deaths in the first two months of 2024.

In March, different road accidents hit the headlines, with the main one that got many shocked involving a Kenyatta University bus that collided with a trailer, claiming the lives of 11 students.
