Kirinyaga - The family of a 64-year-old woman, allegedly murdered by her Ugandan farmhand, is seeking justice after the suspect escaped from police custody.

Phillipino Muifi, 23, had been arrested and held at the fully guarded Kiamaciri Police Station following his connection to the murder of his employer, Rose Muthoni Kariuki.

However, on Sunday, June 2, the family was dismayed to learn from the station's officer in charge that the suspect had disappeared from custody, as reported by Citizen Digital.

“I want justice and the suspect re-arrested. I used my own money to see the suspect brought here from Uganda, right now they have released him,” Caroline Wangui, the deceased's daughter said crying.
“We are going to stay here until we are given a proper explanation,” said another relative, as they confronted the police to provide them with answers.

How did Phillipino Muifi flee prison?

Police reported that Muifi, along with another suspect, broke a pipe and escaped, vanishing on Friday, May 31.

Kirinyaga County Investigator Jason Mworia, who was off duty, mentioned that two on-duty police officers had been arrested in connection with the escape.

He assured the family that efforts were underway to rearrest the suspect.

How was Phillipino Muifi arrested?

Muifi committed the heinous act on November 3, 2023 and escaped from the compound with Muthoni's phone.

During investigations, the officers found the phone at Muifi's aunt's place in Nairobi. They interrogated and apprehended her after she agreed to offer any information regarding the suspect.

He was nabbed in Nakuru and taken to Kiamaciri where the court ordered he be detained for 14 days to allow enough room for a thorough probe.
